John Delbert Stevens

CONNEAUTVILLE — John Delbert Stevens, 82, of Conneautville, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at home.

He was born June 4, 1930, in Conneautville, a son of John L. Stevens and Helen Savel Stevens. He married Judith L. Hickernell Davis on Aug. 31, 1990; she survives.

He was a 1949 graduate of Conneaut Valley High School. He was employed at the Railroad and Highway Department at Kebert Construction Co. for 23 years and C&M Landscaping for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Army.

He was affiliated with Trinity Lutheran Church in Meadville.

He was a social member at Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department, lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, past life member of the Meadville Club, and past member of the Italian Civic Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved to do crossword puzzles, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed going to tractor pulls and Steam Engine Society shows. He loved his tractors and mowing.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Judith L. Stevens of Conneautville; a daughter, Brenda Stevens Weaver and her husband, John, of Conneaut, Ohio; a son, Rick Simms of Goshen, Ind.; two grandchildren, Heather R. Weaver and Ricky (Richard) Simms; several stepchildren and stepgrandchildren; a sister, Betty Stevens of Conneautville; a brother, Calvin M. Stevens and his wife, Joyce, of Saegertown; and several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Shirley M. Andrews and Florence L. Brown; and his second wife, Martha Stevens, in 1985.

Calling hours will be Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville.

The funeral will be Monday at noon at the funeral home, with Pastor Benjamin Travis of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 2115 W 38th St., Erie, Pa. 16508.
