Beauty and the Beast at the Academy

“Christmas at the Academy” continues this weekend with a visit from Pittsburgh’s Gemini Theater Company who will present their “Beauty & the Beast Christmas” Friday and Saturday night.

The renowned children’s theatre group invites families to step inside the classic Beauty and the Beast adventure to share Belle’s heartwarming first Christmas at the Beast’s castle. In this Gift of the Magi-style story, children in the audience help Belle adjust to her life at the castle and teach the Beast the true meaning of unselfish love, friendship and inner beauty.

The production is one of Gemini’s “Step In Stories,” which they describe as “delightful interactive musical adventures that invite children to "step into” the action by acting out parts, creating sound effects, singing and dancing to help bring the stories to life.” In “Beauty and the Beast Christmas,” interactive songs include “All Alone,” in which Belle and her animal friends share their remedies for fighting fear and loneliness and a trellis-building number that allows children to help Belle construct a Christmas present for the Beast.

Gemini Theatre Company was founded in 1996 as an interactive children’s theatre and has grown impressively over the past thirteen years. The company has developed numerous programs for children and adults, including its Classic Children’s Theater, Pittsburgh New Play Festival, Special Needs Workshops, Tickets for Underprivileged Children Program, Summer Theater Camps, School Assembly Performances, mentoring Program and Fieldtrips.

The Academy and its magical visitors will also be taking part in Meadville’s Light Up Night Friday. Families are encouraged to attend the downtown festivities with Santa then come down to the theatre to enjoy the show (which will start a little late to accommodate the celebration.)

Tickets for ‘Beauty and the Beast Christmas’ are specially priced for families at $8 for adults and $6 for children 14 and under. Show time both Friday and Saturday is 7 p.m. T.

To reserve tickets: Call the Academy Box Office at 337-8000 or visit theacademytheatre.org.

Yes, as the technology improves (and is needed), get these systems up and running as quickly as possible.
Yes, and the efficient, clean energy is needed — but take some time to do it right and environment-friendly.
