MEADVILLE —
The Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant is hoping to draw 20 candidates for the 2013 edition, according to Diana Perry, pageant director.
The contest is open to all girls who are residents of the county and are between the ages 16 to 20 as of June 1. Applications are due by June 30.
This year’s theme will be “American Bandstand” with the pageant scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at the fair’s grandstand, Perry said. The winner will take over from the current reigning queen, Lindsey Leigh Lenhart of Saegertown.
The winner is selected on the basis of appearance, speaking ability, poise, personality and a general all-around knowledge of the Crawford County Fair. She also is expected to have a natural sales ability and be efficient in public relations.
Contestants compete in an evening gown competition, skits about why somebody should attend the fair, and on-stage interview questions. They also are interviewed by the pageant’s judges.
The Miss Crawford County Fair Queen Pageant was inaugurated in 2009 with the winner tasked to promote the fair. The winner appears at various events during fair week and also serves as an ambassador for the fair at various social events throughout the year of her reign. She also gets to compete in the Pennsylvania State Fair Association’s fair queen contest in January.
Entry forms for the Miss Crawford County Fair Queen are due by June 30. Applications are available at crawfordcountyfairpa.com. Applications may be submitted electronically or mailed to: Diana Perry, Crawford County Fair Queen Director, Crawford County Fair, 903 Diamond Park, Meadville, Pa. 16335. More information: Contact Perry at 333-7327 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
