MEADVILLE —
A shower of household gifts will be held Oct. 18 to benefit the Marquette Hospice House, and the public is invited to participate.
The event will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Grove Street campus of Meadville Medical Center, located at 1034 Grove St. The shower will run from 3 to 7 p.m.
Organizers hope to entirely outfit the kitchen and the Dr. and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Charitable Trust Guest Wing, as well as the rest of the home, according to Gina McCauley, program director of Hospice of Crawford County Inc. The house needs everything from measuring spoons and light bulbs to sheets, towels and curtains.
Those who wish to donate are asked to use the specially set-up registries for the community shower for the Marquette Hospice House at Wal-Mart and at Bed, Bath & Beyond in Erie. Purchasing an item? Be sure to inform the salesperson or check-out person so it is recorded in the registry.
Those who donate are asked to bring only newly purchased, still-in-the-packaging articles. There will also be a book in which the items will be recorded and these can be donated in someone’s memory or in honor of an individual. Refreshments will be served.
The Marquette Hospice House shower project is sponsored by the Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary, with Gay Lippert as chair of the committee, and Lynette Olson of Meadville Medical Center assisting.
It is suggested that those wishing to donate larger gifts contact Olson at 282-0917 as certain decorating plans are in place so there will be color coordination and no duplicate items.
Items may be brought to the shower, or they may be shipped to Hospice House, c/o Gay Lippert, 8816 Tamarack Drive, Meadville, Pa. 16335, where they will be stored until the opening of the house. Those donating items are asked to make sure their names are labeled prominently on each item, especially those shipped.
Cookbooks in good condition (even if not brand new) are welcome, as are gift cards from local grocery stores that will be used to purchase foodstuffs to stock the pantry when the time comes.
