WEST MEAD TOWNSHIP —
Authorities hope to wrap up within the next 30 days the investigation into the Tuesday night accident that killed a West Mead Township woman while she was in her own bed.
Carol Lee Ramey, 51, of 21083 Old Ellis Hill Road, Meadville, died when her home was struck by a pickup truck driven by Charlene Lillie of Meadville around 10:30 p.m.
“We’re awaiting the final report from the accident reconstruction trooper (of Pennsylvania State Police),” Chief Chip Brown of West Mead Police said Thursday afternoon. “We’re still awaiting medical records on the driver.”
Those reports are expected within the next few weeks, Brown said.
Once received, the information will be reviewed and the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office consulted to determine if charges should be filed, Brown said.
Ramey was home alone and in bed in a first-floor bedroom when the pickup truck driven by Lillie crashed into the Ramey home.
The truck ended up on top of Ramey, according to Scott Schell, Crawford County coroner. Her death was ruled accidental due to blunt force trauma to the head and torso.
Lillie was traveling east on Route 27 when the truck she was driving went off the road near Old Ellis Hill Road, according to West Mead Township Police.
The truck traveled approximately 100 yards through a yard before striking a few small trees and then hitting and embedding itself in the downstairs bedroom of the home.
There also was an unnamed female passenger in the vehicle, according to West Mead Police.
