MEADVILLE —
A Meadville woman was killed in a two-car crash in East Mead Township on Friday, after she lost control of her car and it crossed the center line and struck an oncoming van.
Erica Carpin, 25, of Meadville, was traveling east on Route 27 at a high rate of speed at about 5 p.m., according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police at Meadville, when she then lost control of her car on wet roads. Her car crossed the roadway approximately 100 feet east of Townline Road, and struck the front portion of a westbound van with four people inside.
Carpin was transported to Meadville Medical Center where she was pronounced dead from injuries received in the crash. She was wearing a lap and shoulder belt at the time of the crash, police said.
The second vehicle was driven by Rebecca Burdick, 32, of Guys Mills. Passengers in her vehicle included Michael Burdick, 36, of Guys Mills; Eric Delrio, 28, of Meadville and Sarah Barnes, 26, of Meadville.
All four people in the Burdick vehicle were injured and were transported to Meadville Medical Center for treatment, police said. Both Burdicks were treated and released, and there was no record of Delrio’s case, a nursing supervisor at Meadville Medical Center said. Barnes was transported to Erie’s UPMC Hamot Medical Center, the supervisor said.
At 12:30 a.m. today, a nursing supervisor at UPMC Hamot said Barnes had not yet arrived but was expected. She said Barnes’ condition was not considered to be life-threatening.
Assisting at the scene was Meadville EMS ambulance service, West Mead and East Mead volunteer fire departments and Hayden’s Garage.
