HARRISBURG —
A number of Crawford County residents were among the winners at the 56th annual Keystone International Livestock Exposition held in Harrisburg.
In the open breeding sheep show, Derek Wilson of Titusville had both the champion ram and champion in the Southdown breed while Ron and Barb Yochum of Townville had the reserve champion ram in the Cheviot breed.
In the breeding cattle beef pageant, LPA Gold Rush owned by Janel Rankin of Centerville, was the grand champion bull in the Shorthorn breed.
In the junior breed beef show, Willow owned by Mya Storll of Linesville, was the reserve champion Shorthorn plus heifer.
At the Hereford breeding cattle show, WD 196T Karl 0101 owned by Walker L. Dunn of Cochranton, was the champion senior bull.
In the sheep lead line competition, Rebecca Hyde, 20, of Saegertown, was winner of the senior division while Jade Wilson, 12, of Titusville was second in the intermediate division.
Selection of winners in the lead line competition was based on the clothing ensemble, which must be made from mostly wool; poise and presentation of the contestant; and the appearance and showmanship of the sheep.
Also, one area student was among six youth exhibitors to receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Pennsylvania Livestock Association during opening ceremonies of the Keystone International Livestock Exposition
Cecilyann Klink, a daughter of Richard and Sandra Klink of Hartstown, is freshman at Penn State University and majoring in veterinary and biomedical sciences with the goal of becoming a veterinary pathologist.
Scholarship selection was based on leadership skills, a keen interest in the livestock industry, involvement in the Keystone International Livestock Exposition and support of the Pennsylvania Livestock Association.
