VENANGO TOWNSHIP —
An investigation reportedly continues following an armed robbery early Monday at a Venango Township bar — the third such robbery believed to have been committed by the same suspect in recent weeks.
Pennsylvania State Police at Meadville reported the robbery occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. Monday at Double D’s Venango Hotel, 21750 Cussewago St.
Police said no one was injured, but the suspect — described as a thin, light-skinned black male standing between 5-feet-10- and 5-feet-11-inches tall — reportedly fired a shotgun into the bar’s ceiling before fleeing the scene on foot with approximately $350 in cash.
The suspect was reportedly wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a “flaming 8-ball” design on the front, white shorts and white high-top tennis shoes along with a bandana or ball cap.
He is considered dangerous and should not be confronted if encountered, according to police.
Police said he’s the same person suspected of robbing two other local bars at gunpoint in recent weeks. The Owl’s Nest bar at 18454 U.S. Highway 6 and 19 in Woodcock Township was robbed at gunpoint at 2:30 a.m. July 21, while Nate’s Bar and Grill at 4377 U.S. Highway 19 in Greenwood Township was robbed at gunpoint at 1:30 a.m. July 22, according to state police.
The suspect, further described at that time as being between approximately 25 and 35 years old, allegedly fired one shot into the ceiling of the Owl’s Nest during that robbery. During the Nate’s robbery, he allegedly fired two shots into the ceiling of that bar, according to state police, but was thwarted in his attempt to get money by a patron who wrestled the gun away from him, police said. Police didn’t indicate how much money was taken during the Owl’s Nest robbery.
There were no injuries in either of the previous robberies.
Anyone with information related to the suspect or any of the robberies is asked to call state police at Meadville at (814) 332-6911 or Crawford County Crime Stoppers, toll-free, at (800) 472-8477.
