MEADVILLE —
Wanted: Female Crawford County residents age 25 or over who have completed high school or the equivalent and no more than two years of college who are thinking that going back to college just might be a grand idea — maybe.
If the shoe seems to fit, an information session scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the Allegheny campus is definitely the place to be. The Allegheny College Association, in conjunction with Allegheny College, has a plan of action that has supplied financial support for more than 125 women to continue their education during the course of its 40-year history.
Wednesday’s informal discussion will cover topics including beginning or returning to college, career goals, financial assistance, using the skills and abilities you already have, what to expect on a college campus and adjustments that older students are likely to face. The session will take place in the east alcove of Schultz Hall, between North Main Street and Park Avenue at the southern end of the campus. Parking is available.
The ACA Scholarship was established to provide an opportunity for women who have been out of the classroom for a number of years to continue their education by offering a limited number of scholarships for part-time enrollment at Allegheny. Because they are available for tuition remission under another program, employees of Allegheny College are not eligible for this scholarship.
Each scholarship includes tuition for a maximum of 12 credits for the 2013-2014 academic year as well as a stipend each semester to cover related expenses. Recipients have a faculty advisor to help in course selection as well as counsel in other areas.
Recipients are classified as degree-seeking students, and all courses taken will count toward a degree should the decision be made to continue either at Allegheny or elsewhere. All student privileges, including access to the bookstore, library, fitness center, computing and parking, are also included.

The deadline for completed applications is March 1. Applicants will be interviewed in March and the awards will be announced shortly thereafter.
