ATHENS TOWNSHIP —
While donations are being accepted to help with veterinarian bills for an Athens Township horse that was set on fire over the weekend, police have no new information about the case.
Marley Veterinarian Clinic of Titusville is accepting donations for the veterinarian care of North Star, a 6-year-old horse owned by Jessie K. Woodworth of the Centerville area.
Any donations collected above the cost of the animal’s veterinarian care will be turned over to an equine, or horse, rescue fund, according to staff at the veterinarian clinic.
Someone doused North Star with a flammable liquid and then set the animal on fire while the horse was in an Athens Township pasture, according to Pennsylvania State police at Corry. The incident took place between 7 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday, police said.
There was no new information about the case released Tuesday and no suspects, a dispatcher at the Corry barracks said.
North Star was burnt or singed on most of its body, but survived since the burns were superficial, Woodworth said.
The horse lost its mane and was burnt down his back to his hindquarters, she said.
Persons wishing to donate toward the veterinarian care of North Star, an Athens Township horse that was set on fire over the weekend, may send checks to: Marley Veterinary Clinic, 11416 Hydetown Road, Titusville, Pa., 16354. Persons are asked to write “North Star” on the memo portion of the check.
Pennsylvania State Police at Corry are asking for the public’s help in gathering information on the incident that took place in Athens Township between 7 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday.
Persons with information about the cruelty to animals case are asked to contact state police at Corry at (814) 663-2043 or toll-free, (800) 922-1975.
