MEADVILLE —
Just a little more than $22 will break the cash donation record for the Meadville portion of the ninth annual Drive-Thru Holiday Food Drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania.
As of 2:30 p.m., the Meadville portion of the drive has collected $6,948 in cash donations; 5,867 pounds of food; and 82 frozen turkeys.
The Meadville drive is hoping to top its 2010 record year of 9,685 pounds of food; $6,970.32 in cash donations and 89 turkeys collected locally.
The drive is one of several being held around northwest Pennsylvania today to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.
Volunteers are on duty until 6 p.m. in The Meadville Tribune’s Arch Street parking lot, collecting nonperishable food items, frozen Thanksgiving turkeys and monetary donations. Organizers stress that the food collected locally stays local.
