July 28, 2009 — WARREN COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash on Route 6 Monday afternoon in Columbus Township, Warren County, claimed the lives of two people, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Corry.
Merle Skinner, 75, and Etta Skinner, 81, both of Irvine, were killed when the pickup truck they were in collided with a sport utility vehicle at 4:05 p.m., police said.
Merle Skinner was attempting to drive out from a driveway onto Route 6 west when he drove into the path of an SUV driven by Joshua Ostrander, 20, of Corry, police said. Ostrander had attempted to avoid the collision, but his vehicle struck Skinner’s truck, police said.
The impact rolled Skinner’s vehicle onto its left side and Etta Skinner was ejected from the vehicle, police said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Ostrander and a juvenile passenger were flown by helicopter ambulance to Hamot Medical Center in Erie for treatment of their injuries.
None of the four persons involved was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
