The public is invited to join Active Aging Inc. in honoring area veterans at the 10th annual Through a Veteran’s Eye: A Salute today, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Lew Davies Community Building, Meadville.
The festivities begin with a flag-raising ceremony conducted by the Meadville VFW Post 2006 Color Guard. Following this will be a short message by Republican state Sen. Robert D. Robbins. Attendees will assemble in the community building after the ceremonies for a continental breakfast sponsored by Vantage.
Keynote speaker is Maj. Timothy J. Foor, senior executive officer of the Cambridge Springs-based Pennsylvania National Guard First Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment Stryker Division. Foor’s presentation is titled “A National Guard Stryker Battalion, to Iraq and Back.”
The ceremonies to honor veterans will continue with a special recognition of all former or current servicemen and women in attendance. All veterans, as well as the public, are invited to attend this annual event to honor and thank the community’s veterans. There is no cost to attend. Immediately after the breakfast, veterans will be part of a special photo opportunity that will be organized as a recognition for World War II servicemen and women. The photo shoot is sponsored by The Meadville Tribune. The salute will be broadcast on Armstrong Cable Channel 23.

City leaders not concerned after financial downgrade
During the past five years, Moody’s Investors Service has assigned three different ratings — all within the range of “upper medium grade” to the City of Meadville’s bonds. In 2007, the city was given a rating of A3, the lowest of the trio. In 2010, the city’s bond rating was raised to A1, the highest ranking in the “upper medium” category.
