MEADVILLE —
One of two Meadville teenagers has been ruled a delinquent in Crawford County Juvenile Court for his role in a vicious beating of a 34-year-old Meadville man in the city early on New Year’s Day.
Tyler Adams, 15, now potentially faces fines and placement in a juvenile detention facility after Judge John Spataro declared him delinquent of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment following a juvenile court hearing Wednesday.
Judge Spataro found there was insufficient evidence to adjudicate Adams delinquent on the charge of criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
Adams is one of two teenagers charged by Meadville Police in the 3 a.m. New Year’s Day assault on a Meadville man near the CVS pharmacy at North and Liberty streets.
The second teen, a 16-year-old, faces a court hearing Tuesday to determine if his case will be transferred to Crawford County’s adult criminal court. The Crawford County District Attorney’s Office has filed a request to transfer case of the 16-year-old to adult criminal court.
The 16-year-old suspect is charged with aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, two counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering and two counts of harassment.
District Attorney Francis Schultz said his office was pleased with the court’s verdict in the Adams case.
“(Assistant District) Attorney Craig Howe did a masterful job in presenting the Commonwealth’s evidence to the court,” Schultz said in a statement.
“This is a very serious case in which an innocent citizen was violently attacked on the streets of Meadville,” Schultz said. “The case was thoroughly investigated by Meadville City Police Department Patrolman David Gredler.”
“The victim in this case did a wonderful job in testifying about the attack,” Howe said. The victim suffered multiple facial fractures that required surgery.
With Adams now an adjudicated delinquent by the court, Adams may face potential penalties of fines, court costs, house arrest or placement, Howe said.
Under Pennsylvania juvenile court rules, the penalty on the charges must be imposed within 30 days.
Adams was released to the custody of his parents pending imposition of any penalty, Howe said.
