5/26/06 — Visitors to Conneaut Lake Park this summer will see a new midway look and different prizes.
“The midway games look absolutely spectacular,” said George Deshner, general manager.
“All the places are filled,” he said, noting many old games were brought back and some new ones added. Midway games will include water races, football toss, dart game and cow races as well as the popular Skee Ball.
“Every game space is filled,” he said, noting each one has a theme. “It’s very colorful and a nice selection.”
All prizes will be “plush,” he said, referring to stuffed animal variety. “There will be no plastic blow-up prizes.” Deshner wanted to improve the quality of the prizes offered.
All 12 rides in Kiddieland will be open, as well as the water park, the Blue Streak and other traditional rides. However, these four rides are still not in operation as the park is waiting on parts: the Tumble Bug, the Roundup, the Toboggan and the miniature train.
At the same time, the always-popular Tempest is back in business.
Deshner hopes to have all those rides and possibly two more — the Scrambler and the Rock and Roll — in place by the July 4 weekend.
Work on getting the train back on the track will begin Tuesday as a “brick by brick” campaign continues to raise the $40,150 needed.
As of Thursday morning, the campaign had reached $25,300 — or 63 percent — of the goal, according to Carol West, Conneaut Lake Institute treasurer.
Bricks are being sold for either $100 or $200, which can be inscribed with either three or six lines of message, respectively.
Containers also are placed in various businesses for donations and when $100 is received, a brick will be ordered with the inscription, noting donations were from customers of that business.
Order forms are available at www.conneautlakepark.com or at various businesses.
Volunteers who would like to assist at the park can call 382-5225; those wishing to make a donation can send it to Conneaut Lake Institute, PO Box 111, Conneaut Lake, Pa. l6316. Donations for bricks can be sent to that address as well along with the order form.
Rides will be open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. and Monday from noon to 9.
