Residents express mixed reactions to ruling of sale

04/24/07 — A mixture of optimism and sorrow was voiced by Con-neaut Lake-area residents after hearing the news of the court ruling rejecting the proposed sale of park land, which could shut down Conneaut Lake Park this year.

Don Weyel, president of Conneaut Lake Area Bus-iness Association: “The businesses around the lake are going to hurt and possibly go out of business. I understand there is a possibility it may still open,” he said with optimism. “I think it will open.”

Wanda Ramaley, owner/-operator of the Stable Pit and Pub: “It truly had to be a tough decision for Judge (Anthony) Vardaro. It had to be a really tough decision. I think it (the sale) was a Band-Aid.” She thinks the “answer (to the park’s financial problems) is to have somebody come in with major money.” Vardaro’s decision was tough because “no matter either way (of the ruling) he was going to tick off people.”

Pat Sherry, long-time supporter of the park: “Everyone will be sorry when this is over (the park closed) and it will be too late.”

George Hewlett, co-owner of The Palms Restaurant: “Oh, that’s terrible (when told of the news). It saddens me to hear that. It really does.”
