CONNEAUT LAKE — A group of boaters from the Pittsburgh area were rescued quickly Monday afternoon after their boat “split apart” while out in the middle of Conneaut Lake near Midway.
However, nobody was injured.
Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Treacy said he was in his boat on the northwestern end of the lake when the call for assistance came in. He immediately radioed for more assistance and went to the scene, as did Pennsylvania Fish Commission personnel.
“For unknown reasons, the boat split apart and water was rushing in,” said Treacy. The Fish Commission assisted with the rescue and helped transport people back to the shore. The fire department had a portable pump they used as the boat was towed in to keep it from sinking.
Three people were in the boat, said Treacy, noting they were from the Pittsburgh area.
Conneaut Lake Regional Police Department assisted at the scene with the boat ramp, said Treacy.
The call came in about 3:14 p.m. and the last unit reported back about 4:37 p.m., according to Crawford County Office of Emergency Services.

City leaders not concerned after financial downgrade
During the past five years, Moody’s Investors Service has assigned three different ratings — all within the range of “upper medium grade” to the City of Meadville’s bonds. In 2007, the city was given a rating of A3, the lowest of the trio. In 2010, the city’s bond rating was raised to A1, the highest ranking in the “upper medium” category. Monday, Moody’s gave the city’s $10,000,000 General Obligation Bonds, Series of 2012, which went on the market Monday, the middle rating of A2.
