MEADVILLE —
The removal of a railroad spur crossing Bessemer Street and Mead Avenue in the general vicinity of the intersection of Mead Avenue and the French Creek Parkway — Routes 6 and 19 — is expected to be complete within the next two weeks.
Beginning Wednesday at 8 a.m., work will start on the Bessemer Street portion of the project and continue for three to four days, Andrew Lincoln of Lincoln Recycling, the company handling the removal, announced Monday.
The Bessemer Street closing should cause little disruption, Lincoln said, but detour signs will be posted. If work proceeds at planned, the first part of the project should be complete within three or four days.
Once the track is removed and Bessemer is repaved, work will begin on Mead Avenue, which will be closed for four to five days. While Mead Avenue is closed, traffic will be detoured to the intersection of the parkway and Bessemer Street at the Reynolds Avenue intersection. From there, traffic will follow Bessemer to access Mead Avenue businesses.
