Morning storm update - relatively minor damage

MEADVILLE — Crawford County remains under a flood watch through this evening and a high wind warning until 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Winds are expected at sustained speeds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of up to 65 mph.

Through this evening, an additional 2 inches of rain may fall in some locations.

Currently there are no concerns about flooding of French Creek or Conneautee Creek (Conneautville and Springboro areas in northwestern Crawford County), according to Crawford County Office of Emergency Services Director Alan Clark.

French Creek at Mercer Street Bridge in Meadville was at 9.94 feet at 8:15 a.m., which is a little more than 4 feet below flood stage, according to National Weather Service. The creek is predicted to crest at 12.3 feet Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

National Weather Service said wind speed hit 43 mph at Port Meadville Airport — much less than predicted, Clark said.

Crawford County 911 had 50 calls  of trees and wires down from 5 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. today, Clark said.

“The calls were scattered — every corner of the county,” said Clark.

Examples he gave were calls in Spartansburg, Conneautville, Conneaut Lake and Centerville.

“The 50 calls for trees kept the fire departments up all night, but thankfully no one was hurt,” Clark said.
