Fugitive Csorba arrested after chase in Ohio

34-year-old was subject of manhunt in western Crawford County and had been on the run for weeks

PIERPONT, Ohio — A Crawford County fugitive who has been on the run from local and federal authorities for about a month was tased and then captured Monday afternoon.

A tip called into the Crawford County Sheriff’s office led to the arrest of Jason Michael Csorba, 34, after a short foot chase near Jamboree Foods at the intersections of routes 167 and 7 at about 3:55 p.m. Officers of the western Pennsylvania U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office deployed a Taser to stop him, according to Crawford County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Neil Fratus.

“He was ordered to stop and told he was under arrest,” Fratus said. “He didn’t stop, so he had to be tased.”

Csorba was taken into custody and transported to the Ashtabula County, Ohio, jail where he awaits an eventual extradition hearing to determine when he will return to face charges in Crawford County.

Authorities expect to place Csorba before a judge within 72 hours of his extradition back into Crawford County, according to Fratus. Csorba reportedly traveled across state lines several times within the past two months.

When Csorba was the subject of a manhunt and was on the run in western Crawford County last month, authorities considered him armed and dangerous, but he did not have a weapon at the time of his arrest.

Csorba was the subject of a Crawford County’s Most Wanted feature from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office in The Meadville Tribune’s Jan. 8 edition. Tips generated by readers of the feature set authorities on Csorba’s trail in western Crawford County, where he had once lived.

Fratus extended his thanks to the several agencies he said worked on the case relentlessly since the first week of January.

“Thanks to Pennsylvania State Police, the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office, Ashtabula City Police and the Linesville Police Department for all their help and effort,” he said. “Thankfully we were able to apprehend him.”

Csorba was sought by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in county court on felony charges of assault, terroristic threats and illegally possessing a firearm.

According to state police records, the charges stemmed from a July 16, 2012, incident on Philadephia Road in Beaver Township, were Csorba was living at the time. State police said Csorba confronted a neighbor about walking on a road abutting their properties. During the incident, Csorba pulled a gun and threated to shoot the neighbor’s pets, the neighbor and the neighbor’s wife.

The state trooper who investigated that incident also said he found drug paraphernalia on Csorba and that Csorba was to not have firearms due to a past drug conviction.
