More charges have been filed in the June 26 incident on Park Avenue that left three men hospitalized as the result of knife wounds; preliminary hearings for all three have been scheduled for Aug. 30.
Although parts of the investigation are still ongoing, “all three were involved in a mutual fight in which all three ended up stabbed,” Sgt. Mike Tautin of Meadville Police Department said Wednesday.
William Anthony Hunter, 28, of 587 Seagirt St., Pittsburgh was arraigned Wednesday before Meadville Area Magisterial District Judge William Chisholm on one count of simple assault involving mutual combat, a misdemeanor of the third degree carrying a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $2,500 fine, and one count of disorderly conduct, a summary offense with a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $300 fine. Neither charge carries a mandatory sentence.
According to court records filed by Tautin, he was dispatched to a fight involving a knife in front of Theodore’s Bar at 2:15 a.m. When he arrived, he found Narada Green, 29, of 530 Moore St., Lake City, S.C., on the ground with knife wounds to his abdomen. A short time later, a car owned and driven by Ronald King, 25, of 133 Meadow St., Pittsburgh, arrived at the scene. Both King and Hunter, his passenger, also had knife wounds.
“According to witnesses at the scene and initial statements, these three men mutually entered into a fight causing injuries to all,” Tautin wrote.
All three were taken to Meadville Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Green was then flown to Hamot Medical Center in Erie and King was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Hunter remained in Meadville’s intensive care unit.
During Wednesday’s arraignment, Tautin said he had been advised by Meadville Medical Center that Hunter would remain hospitalized for several days following the incident. However, when he returned the next day to interview the suspect, Tautin was told that Hunter had signed himself out.
An arrest warrant was issued July 2. Hunter told Chisholm that he turned himself in Tuesday night on the advice of his probation officer and was then transported to Meadville. According to Hunter, he was previously arrested for a drug-related incident in Wilkinsburg and sentenced to one year of house arrest; when he violated the terms of his sentence, he spent 16 months in Allegheny County jail and is now on probation for the incident.
Hunter was committed to Crawford County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, the same bail amount set for both Green and King.
On June 29, King was arraigned before Chisholm on drug-related charges arising from a search warrant issued to city police in connection with the stabbing. During the investigation, police found King to be in possession of alleged crack cocaine and marijuana. King, who had been released from UPMC Presbyterian earlier that day, remains in Crawford County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
On July 2, Green was arraigned before Chisholm on two counts of simple assault and a summary count of disorderly conduct. Arrested by Meadville police at Hamot following his discharge earlier the same day, Green was also committed to Crawford County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. According to Tautin, Green has since posted bail and been released.
Tautin said Wednesday he expects charges will also be filed against King in connection with the stabbing prior to the Aug. 30 preliminary hearings for all three suspects.
