The Center for Financial Independence provides federal, state and local tax preparation for households with total earned income of $49,000 or less.
Its staff will help residents see if they qualify for the EIC (Earned Income Credit). The maximum EIC for tax year 2009 is $5,657 with three or more qualifying children; $5,028 with two qualifying children; $3,043 with one qualifying child; and $457 with no qualifying children.
The Center for Financial Independence was established to help families strengthen their financial stability by reducing debt and increasing assets. By having qualifying tax returns done through the center families will save tax preparation fees and avoid instant refund fees and charges, allowing families to keep more of their refund to help with everyday costs.
