COCHRANTON — Betty Jean Rhoades, 78, of Cochranton, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at Meadville Medical Center.

Born Jan. 1, 1934, in Cochranton, she was a daughter of Randall C. and Martha M. Mook Irwin. She married Russell Rhoades on April 17, 1969, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2011.

She worked at the former Hugh Hollabaugh Farm in Carlton for several years and also for Rhoades Produce.

She enjoyed playing bingo, doing puzzles and playing cards.

Survivors include a son, Jerry M. Irwin and his wife, Bridget, of Meadville; a daughter, Sharon Shields of Cochranton; four sisters, Dorothy Rhoades of Cochranton, Nancy Vanderhoff of Meadville, and Arlene Howell, and Delores Hatzell and her husband, Robert, all of Oxford, Fla.; two brothers, Richard Irwin and his wife, Brenda, of Cochranton, and Thomas Irwin and his wife, Diane, of Sandy Lake; seven grandchildren, Matthew Irwin, Michael Irwin, Michele Elliot and her husband, Jeremy, David J. Simmons and his wife, Shelly, Alicia Simmons and companion, Alan Alexander, Penny Simmons and companion, Ricky Brown, and Dina Johnston and her husband, Chris; several great-grandchildren; and family friend, John Elder.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Charles, Raymond and Donald Irwin; a sister, Phyllis Mattocks; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Rhoades.

Friends may call at Dickson Family Funeral Home Inc., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Pastor Randy Keeling of Reasch Church celebrating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
