HOOPESTON, Ill. —
John Edward Andel, 73, of Oakwood, Ill., formerly of Hoopeston, Ill., died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Hoopeston Hospital Emergency Room.
John was born May 21,1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son to Frank and Cecila Hleavty Andel. He married Frances Weaver on Oct. 10, 1976, in Linesville. She died on June 3, 2000.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann (John) Glover of Paxton, Ill. and Tina (Frederick Abhsie) Andel of Milford, Ill.; four sons, Sean (Teri) Andel of Champaign, Ill., Raymond (Ruth) Andel of Meadville, Charles (Liz) Andel of Indian Head Park, Ill., and Timothy (Kathy) Andel of Red Lion; 15 grandchildren, and several local in-laws that include: Anna Weaver of Atlantic, Gerald (Pat) Weaver of Atlantic, Mary Armor of Meadville, Sara (Ken) Baum of Atlantic, Marguerite (Carl) Ferry of Newport, N.C. and William (Joan) Weaver of Linesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John graduated from Elyria, Ohio, Catholic High School and Danville Area Community College.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1963 on the USS Hancock and deployed several times.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETS, an active supporter of Fraternal Order of Police, and a member of the Navy Club in Lebanon, Pa. He also donated blood on a regular basis.
He had worked at FMC in Hoopeston, Caterpillar in Pontiac and Wadake in Lafayette, Ind.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, at Wolfe Funeral Home, 907 W. Main St., Hoopeston. Father Patrick O’Neal and Pastor Gary Milton officiated.
Burial was at the National Cemetery in Danville, Ill., with full military honors by the Danville American Legion Post.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family requests that memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
