NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. —
Martha Jane Lynch Smith, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Neptune Beach, Fla., where she resided for seven years.
She was born in Meadville on Sept. 9, 1930, to Raymond V. and Frances M. Wylie Lynch.
She was always a “Daddy’s girl” and was lovingly nicknamed “Pug” by her father. One of her most cherished memories as a little girl was riding her pony, Boots, on their family farm in Harmonsburg, where she grew up.
Martha Jane graduated from J.H. Thompson Academy as a cosmetologist and beauty culture teacher in 1978.
She loved bowling, playing cards, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her beautiful reddish-brown curls, helpful nature, wonderful cooking, sewing and craftiness.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William L. Smith; a sister, Elizabeth (Bettie) Lynch Webb; two brothers, Robert D. Lynch and Donald J. Lynch; and her stepsister, Helen (Darlene) Wilson Zoner.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory three sons, Raymond (Doug) Caldwell of Luverne, Ala., Richard H. Caldwell of Cambridge Springs, and Alan E. Caldwell of Erie; two daughters, Heidi S. Hendrickson-Thompson (Hancel) of Luverne, and Kimberly K. Hendrickson Charles (Doug) of Neptune Beach; 12 grandchildren, Karie, Jennifer, Melissa, Christopher, Nicole, Amanda, Erin, Stephannie, Danyele, Megan, Kaycee and James; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Martha did not want a “funeral.” Family and friends are invited to a prayer service in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg (Section F), Thursday at noon.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in her memory.
Family and friends will be received afterwards for a “Celebration of Life” at Idyll Whyle Village clubhouse, 700 Skyline Drive, McKean, starting at 2 p.m.
