SAEGERTOWN —
Ruby A. Ralston, 95, of 20881 State Highway 198, Saegertown, formerly of 16523 Rogers Ferry Road, Meadville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.
Ruby was born in Cranberry Township, Venango County, Sept. 26, 1917, a daughter of James Cleaver and Mary Jane Young Hockman. On June 29, 1934, Ruby married Ernest RF (Robert) Ralston; he preceded her in death on June 25, 1989.
Ruby’s calling in life was raising six children, gardening and quilting. During World War II, she had been employed by Franklin Steel. Ruby spent much of her middle years at Farmer’s Market at Franklin and running the family farm at Cherrytree. She produced hundreds of hand-quilted quilts from the age of 8 until the age of 92.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara (widow of Ronald) Exley of Van, Mary K. (Elford L.) Ralston-Carwile of Gladys, Va., and Darla (widow of Martin) Heckman, of Meadville; one son, Lewis Ralston and his wife, Christy, of Utica; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Robert, of 55 years, Ruby was preceded in death by a son, John F. Ralston; a daughter, Donna Lee Ralston; a grandson, Lewis E. Ralston Jr.; five sisters and five brothers.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Crawford County Care Center for their loving care of Ruby over the last four years.
Friends may call Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. at Hathaway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, with Pastor Dave Brumagin, chaplain of Meadville Medical Center, officiating.
Interment will be private in Lyona Cemetery, Lyona.
