MEADVILLE — Myrtle M. Heffernan, 99, formerly of Cochranton, and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center.

She was born July 11, 1913, in Wayne Township, Crawford County, a daughter of William H. and Flora Reese Dilley. She married Kenneth Heffernan on Oct. 24, 1934, and he preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1997.

A homemaker, in her early years, Myrtle worked at Drafto in Cochranton. She and her husband lived and owned a farm in Cochranton for 30 years.

Myrtle attended McDaniels Corners Bible Church. She loved gardening, working with flowers, canning and quilting, but her focus was her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley LaPolt of Erie, Vivian McMaster and her husband, LaVerne, of Cochranton, and Cheryl Greathouse of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Penny Yori and her husband Mark, Alison LaPolt, Jeffrey McMaster and his wife, Kathy, Joy Kasbee and her husband, Edwin, Julie Hamilton, Jodi Loutzenhiser and her husband, Fred, Laurie Kebert and her husband, Floyd, and Lisa Cullen; 20 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and also stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Stanley Dilley; two sisters, Cecil Rough and Claudia Hollabaugh; and two sons-in-law, Howard LaPolt and Roger Greathouse.

Calling hours will be Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, where the funeral and committal service will follow at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Adam Almaroad, pastor of McDaniels Corners Bible Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Cochranton Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
