SAEGERTOWN — Elvin Walker, 90, of 20881 State Highway 198, Saegertown, formerly of 596 Remler Alley, Meadville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at UPMC Medical Center, Pittsburgh.

Elvin was born in Memphis, Tenn., on May 25, 1922, a son of the late Eddie Lee and Mary Jane (Pool) Walker.

He was an active member of United Faith Fellowship Church, Meadville, where he had served as deacon, trustee and was a member of the Prison Ministry.

For more than 40 years, Elvin was employed as a concrete worker for Bruno Harris and for himself. A U.S. Army veteran, Elvin served his country during World War II from Dec. 21, 1945, until his honorable discharge on March 9, 1947.

Elvin is survived by two children, the Rev. Berta Newsome Jones and her husband, the Rev. Dr. Cheviene Jones, and Elvin Rose and his companion, Linda, both of Meadville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Elvin was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jacqueline Newsome; three sisters; and two brothers.

Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A homecoming service with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at United Faith Fellowship Church, 561 State St., Meadville, with his daughter, the Rev. Berta Newsome Jones, pastor, officiating, and his son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Cheviene Jones, delivering the eulogy.

Interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Township.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
