MEADVILLE —
Jerry Walls, 78, of Meadville, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1934, in Meadville, a son of Joseph H. and Gwendola Sutton Walls Sr. He married Joanne Schweitzer on June 28, 1951, and she survives.
He first started working at Talon Inc. and then worked at several tool shops in the area before starting Walls Tool, which he operated for 37 years.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville, VFW Post 8803, Tidioute, the Meadville Club, Meadville Elks Lodge 219 and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Meadville Aerie 429. He loved projects, largely building his family home at Tamarack and two hunting camps near Tidioute, where he enjoyed spending time with family and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and in his younger years, roller skating and dancing.
In addition to his wife, Joanne, of 61 years, survivors include a son, Michael Walls and his wife, Laura, of Black Mountain, N.C.; two daughters, Christine DelaPaz and her husband, James, of Meadville, and Lisa Volna and her husband, David, of Meadville; six grandchildren, Brett Walls and his wife, Jennifer, Jennifer Walls, Alicia Stallard, Taylor Stallard, Kerryann Boozer and her husband, Scott, and Joseph Volna and his wife, Rachel; seven great-grandchildren, Shealigh, Austin, Jacob, Garric, JoAnna, Brooks and Ashlee; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the youngest of nine children and is also survived by a sister, Betty Davern of Meadville; and a brother, Waldon Walls of Lincoln, Neb.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Mae Walls and Margaretta Walls; and four brothers, Joseph Walls Jr., Paul Edward Walls, Jack S. Walls Sr. and Robert F. Walls.
Private family services will be held at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, with Father Matthew Kujawinski, of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
