Pearl E. Winkle

GREENVILLE — Pearl E. Winkle of St. Glory Road, Greenville, formerly of Hartstown, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at White Cliff Nursing Home at the age of 84.

Mrs. Winkle was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Sadsbury Township, Crawford County, to Forest and Hazel Holland Thompson. On Sept. 15, 1946, she married William R. Winkle; they were married for 42 years before his passing on Oct. 14, 1988.

Pearl graduated as valedictorian from Fallowfield High School in 1946. As a longtime member of Fallowfield United Methodist Church, she was very active in the mission department, the ladies auxiliary and Sunday school. In 1992 she retired as the head of food service at Conneaut Lake School District. Her favorite summer pastime was helping bake the pies and working at the church’s stand at the Crawford County Fair.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and canning. She cherished baking chocolate chip and “grandpa” molasses cookies for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pearl is survived by a son, Timothy Winkle and wife, Callie, with whom she and her daughter, H. Paulette (Polly), made their home the last few years. Pearl leaves behind three grandchildren, April Turner and her husband, Larry, of Sandy Lake, Christopher Winkle and wife, Laurie, of Milford Center, Ohio, and Annette Freshwater (Winkle) and significant other, Jeff Vivian, residing in Cheswick; seven great-grandchildren, Austin and Lauren Turner, Caitlyn, Stephen, Mason and Brooklyn Winkle, and Levi Freshwater. Pearl is survived by two brothers, Frank Thompson and wife, Myrna, of Hartstown, and Kenneth and wife, Vivian, in Greenville; a sister-in-law, Mary Thompson of Hartstown; and a brother-in-law, Robert Winkle and his wife, Elanda, of Hartstown.

Pearl was preceded in death by her loving husband, William; young son John; devoted sister, Jean Ellis and husband, Elmer; and caring brother, Dale Thompson. Pearl, and will be deeply missed by her family, friends and community.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fallowfield United Methodist Church, c/o Mission Department, 3993 Leach Road, Atlantic, Pa. 16111.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Fallowfield United Methodist Church, 3993 Leach Road, Atlantic, with the Rev. Karen Kostur, pastor of the church, officiating.

Interment will be in Rocky Glenn Cemetery, West Fallowfield Township.
