JAMESTOWN —
Johanna (Van De Ven) Vanderstappen, 84, of 4444 U.S. Highway 322, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at 5:50 a.m. at UPMC Horizon, Greenville, Mercer County.
She was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Heesch, Netherlands, a daughter of Petrus and Christina Van De Ven. She married John Vanderstappen Aug. 25, 1954. He preceded her in death Nov. 21, 2012, after 58 years of marriage.
John and Johanna immigrated to the United States in 1954. They worked on a dairy farm in Franklin before purchasing their own, first in Cochranton and then buying one in Adamsville. Her role was not only to raise the children and care for their home, but to manage the farm financially. She retired in 1984.
She was a member of St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, Jamestown, and St. Margaret’s Ladies Guild.
Survivors include three sons, Peter Vanderstappen and his wife, Barb, of Lebanon, John Vanderstappen and his wife, Amy, of Transfer, and Hans Vanderstappen of Hartstown; a daughter, Christine Waddell and her husband, Robert, of Townville; seven grandchildren, Erika Friddle and her husband, Chris, Ty Vanderstappen, Lynde Brownlee and her husband, William, Wes Vanderstappen, Josh Waddell and his wife, Hayley, Joe Waddell and Katie Waddell; five great-grandchildren; a brother, John Van De Ven of Manotick, Canada; and a sister, Adolphina Van Der Heyden of the Netherlands.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arnold, Wilhelm and Piet Van De Ven, all from the Netherlands; and a sister, Ann Morrow of Canada.
Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Randall Funeral Home, 416 Liberty St., Jamestown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Chris Hamlet, pastor of St. Margaret’s, as celebrant.
Interment will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Jamestown.
The family requests donations be made to St. Margaret’s Ladies Guild, 701 Denver St., Jamestown, Pa. 16134.
