GREENVILLE —
Lee H. Shilling, age 88 of Georgetown Road, Sandy Lake, passed away peacefully at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 in St. Paul’s of natural causes.
Born Sept. 7, 1924, in New Lebanon, he was a son of William D. and Helen M. Hayne Shilling.
He attended New Lebanon Country School.
In his early years, we worked at the “TNT” Plant, Keystone Ordinance in Greenwood Township. He retired from the Greenville Steel Car Company of Greenville in 1984 after 38 years of service. While at the Steel Car, he was a welder and also was instrumental in unionizing the shop and served for many years as chief union steward.
Mr. Shilling was a longtime member of the New Lebanon Community Church and the New Lebanon Grange and served 32 years on the New Lebanon Borough Council, of which many years he served as president. He was very community-oriented and always worked to make things better for his fellow man.
He enjoyed working on cars, small motors and machinery. He loved to rebuild many old things. In his earlier years he loved to hunt and fish.
His wife, the former Marian L. Tanecnik, whom he married Jan. 19, 1943, survives at home; also surviving are two daughters, Nancy L. Floch and her husband, Richard J., of Hartstown, and Kay L. Shilling of Sandy Lake; two sons, Richard L. Shilling and his wife, Lois, of Cat Spring, Texas, and Daniel L. Shilling and his wife, Ronda, of Sandy Lake; four grandchildren, Jeremy Shilling and his wife, Joalla, of Bryan, Texas, Karla Shilling of Austin, Texas, Erin Shilling of Coraopolis, and Scot Shilling of Midland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Eva Chick, and four brothers, Clifford, Bernie, Raymond and Kenneth Shilling.

Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. today in the Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro.
The funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Richard C. Steinlechner assisted by Associate Pastor Rev. Virginia LaVan Gadsby of the New Lebanon Community Church, officiating.
Interment will be at New Lebanon Cemetery, Mill Creek Township.
