CONNEAUTVILLE — Robert E. Martin, 91, of Wing Road, Conneautville, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Meadville Medical Center.

Born in Pittsburgh on Jan. 23, 1919, he was a son of the late Thomas and Susan Weigel Martin. On May 4, 1957, Mr. Martin married Patricia Backner; she survives.

Mr. Martin was a dairy farmer and was employed in some of the local automotive agencies (Weber-Harris and Coughanar, both of Meadville) as a mechanic.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the European Theater, where he was wounded in battle.

He was proficient in building replicas of churches and other similar types of miniature structures. He also enjoyed hunting with friends and family.

He was a lifetime member of Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars and Conneautville American Legion.

In addition to his wife of nearly 53 years, survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Bennett and her significant other, Al Longo, of Springboro, and Lois Rihn of Pittsburgh; three granddaughters, Traci McDonald of Springboro, and Lisa and Sandy Rihn, both of Pittsburgh; four grandsons, Robert Bennett and his significant other, Shannon Amos, of Springboro, Gregory Bennett of Conneautville, and Danny and Lawrence Rihn, both of Pittsburgh; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Ernest and Tim (Timmy) Martin; a son, William Martin; and an infant sister, Grace.

Visitation is Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Dickson Funeral Home, 130 N. Second St., Conneaut Lake.

The funeral is Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Phillip Thomas of Bible Baptist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg, with Conneautville American Legion conducting graveside military burial honors.
