ERIE —
Ruth Eleanor Speer Martin, 91, of Millcreek Township, Erie County, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at West Lake Woods Assisted Living Community.
She was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Dempseytown, the daughter of the late Warren A. and Marie Larsen Speer. She was a graduate of the former Oakland Township High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Mercyhurst College, Erie.
Ruth was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church of Erie since 1946, a member of the Mary Martha Circle, and past president of the Lakewood United Methodist Women. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, needlework and bridge.
She is survived by two sons, James L. Martin of Mentor, Ohio, and Jon P. Martin (Karen) of Millcreek Township; three daughters Donna R. Martin of Erie, Jacquelyn M. Kuehner (Sonny) of Meadville, and Sue Ann Neustel, of Sandia Park, N.M.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. Martin, in 2006; two brothers William J. and Roscoe Speer; and one daughter-in-law, Kathie Martin.
Friends may call at Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road, Erie, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral is Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Lewis officiating.
Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church, 3856 W. 10th St., Erie, Pa. 16505.
