COCHRANTON —
James L. Christner of Cochranton died at 2:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at the Meadville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Meadville. He was 66.
James was born on May 4, 1946, in French Creek Township, Mercer County.
He was the son of Leland and Mary Ellen (Yoder) Christner, who preceded him in death.
James worked at various occupations. He was self-employed as a barn and house painter; he worked in a tool shop; and lastly, he drove truck for Hovis Trucking of Grove City until his retirement.
James loved to read and explore new ideas and be exposed to philosophies and beliefs other than his own. He became very proficient with the computer and learned how to set up a wireless system.
He will be remembered for a dry sense of humor and his great interest in people and love of conversation.
James is survived by siblings Miriam Benson of Poway, Calif., Catherine Christner of Cochranton, John Leland Christner and his wife, Sharon, of Meadville, Nancy Pipper of Meadville, Timothy L. Christner and his wife, Wilma, of Fairfield, Mont., Alice Gingerich and her husband, David, of Uniontown, Ohio, and Juanita Christner of Uniontown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stephan Paul Christner and Andrew L. Christner.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasantview Mennonite Fellowship Hall, County Line Road, Cochranton, with minister John Wengerd officiating.
Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Deer Creek Township.
Friends may call at the fellowship hall on Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and are invited to share condolences and memories online at rlsfh.com.
