Henry (Buz) Ward Baldwin Jr.

SAEGERTOWN — Henry (Buz) Ward Baldwin Jr., 85, of 704 Grant St., PO Box 572, Saegertown, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center.

Buz was born in Meadville on March 16, 1927, a son of the late Henry Ward and Marie (Hunter) Baldwin Sr.

On Jan. 2, 1954, Henry married W. Lea Greenawalt; she survives.

He was a lifelong member of Saegertown United Methodist Church, Saegertown.

For more than 50 years, Buz owned and operated his own accounting business which he began in 1955. During 39 of these years he also served as the Saegertown Borough tax collector as well as the receiver of taxes for PENNCREST School District for seven years. He had previously been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue as a field auditor; by the former Baldwin Laboratories, Saegertown; and by Price Waterhouse Accounting Firm, Cleveland, Ohio.

He was a 1945 graduate of Saegertown High School. A World War II veteran, Buz entered the U.S. Navy on June 13, 1945. He attained the rank of SI/c and served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations until his honorable discharge on Aug. 9, 1946

 Buz attended Allegheny College from 1946 to 1948, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He later went on to further his education at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, and was a founding member of its Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chapter. He graduated in 1953 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. Buz had served on the Board of Trustees as well as treasurer of Pennsylvania Earned Income Tax Association and as past president of Crawford County Tax Collector Organization. He was a former member of Kismet Grotto and of Masonic Lodge 254.

In addition to his wife, Lea, of 59 years, Buz is survived by six children, Leslie Latour and her husband, Terry, of Clarion, Henry (Skip) Baldwin III of Saegertown, Jeffrey S. Baldwin and his wife, Roberta, of Midland, Mich., Cheryl Buzzard of Bakerstown, Clarica Stanish and her husband, Frank, of Cheswick, Wyo., and Todd Baldwin of Manassas, Va.; 12 grandchildren, Katie (Devinney) Brown, Mollie Devinney, Sarah Devinney, Tiffany Stanish, Taylor Stanish, Francine Stanish, Bob Baldwin, Nathan Baldwin, Stephanie Latour, Madeline Baldwin, Margo Baldwin and Henry Baldwin IV; three great-grandchildren, Evie Baldwin, Jack Baldwin and Miles Baldwin; a sister, Sallie Baldwin Bam and her husband, Foster, of Greenwich, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Buz was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi Sue Baldwin; two brothers, Richard C. Baldwin and David H. Baldwin; and a sister, Audrey Horner.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown.  Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, where the funeral will be held at noon, with the Rev. Darrell L. Greenawalt, pastor, officiating. Military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will follow.

Interment will take place in Saegertown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, Pa. 16433; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
