Mark Douglas Ulbrich

MEADVILLE — Mark Douglas Ulbrich, 57, of Meadville, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. He was born Jan. 10, 1955, in Meadville, a son of William J. Ulbrich and Marian C. Hough Ulbrich. Mark and his 30-year companion, Kathleen Jones Ulbrich, were married on Nov. 6, 2011.

Mark was a Meadville Area Senior High School graduate, was employed as a union millwright and owned Talon Precision Sharpening. He was a member of New Beginnings Church of God.

Mark was a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He served in many volunteer capacities for veterans organizations and other civic action groups. For years he served the American Legion Post 111 as junior vice commander, post adjutant, post finance officer, service officer, as a member of the funeral honor guard team, placing flags and veteran’s graves, and selling poppies. Mark also served the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 79 as adjutant, treasurer and service officer. He also served and assisted the Memorial Day Committee for a number of years, both on the committee and as an expediter when things needed to be delivered or returned to storage. He worked for a number of years assisting the Central Blood Bank in their efforts for blood collection. He also participated in green energy research for the community. He loved his dog, Patches, and his cat, Miss Kitty.

He is survived by his father, William J. Ulbrich of Meadville; his wife, Kathleen Ulbrich of Meadville; two sons, Christopher P. Jones and his companion, Tasha Renee Neal, of Summersville, W.Va., and Kevin A. Jones of Meadville; two grandchildren, Conor and Halie Neal; and two sisters, Kelle Lyn Consla and Karen Sue Ulbrich, both of Meadville.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

The family will be receiving family and friends on Thursday at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Harold Ferraro. Military honors will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. at the church by American Legion Post 111.
