Albert C. Conrad

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — Albert C. Conrad, resident of 26740 Beckman Road, Cambridge Springs, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie.

Born on May 4, 1925, in Seattle, Wash., Albert was a son of the late Albert Conrad and Selma Heineke Conrad. Albert lived 87 1/2 healthy years. Following his high school graduation in 1943, Albert enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country for the duration of the war. He was stationed in California where he was a medic. After the war, he married his senior-year sweetheart, Vivian Carr, and they lived in Cambridge Springs for most of their entire marriage where they raised their three daughters.

Albert served on boards at Cambridge Springs United Methodist Church where he also taught Sunday school. Years ago, he coached Little League.

Albert’s wife, Vivian, passed away April 18, 1973, and he subsequently married Peg Graham in June 1976. Together, they made their home in Meadville. Albert retired from Micro Tool in Meadville in 1990 where he had been a tool and die maker.

In 1993, Albert moved to Lakeland, Fla., where his second wife died in December 2004. In April 2009, a stranger’s offer to purchase his home was seen by Al as a direction from the Lord to return to Cambridge Springs. He did so in June 2009 and he made his final earthly home with his daughter, Kay Gage and her husband, Tom.

In addition to his parents and both wives, Vivian and Peg, Al was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle who raised him.

Surviving Albert are his three daughters, Susan Davis and her husband, Max, of Cambridge Springs, Lynne Bishop of Meadville, and Kay Gage and her husband, Tom, of Cambridge Springs, with whom he lived for the past three and one-half years. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Max Davis Jr., Krista O’Neal and her husband, Josh, Frank Urbanick and his wife, Vanuza, Stacy Zurcher and her husband, Scott, Tom Gage Jr. and his wife, Tenae, and Julie Kania and her husband, Darrell. Albert was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Kadyn and Arabella O’Neal, Frankie Urbanick, Alydia and Brielle Zurcher, Cyrus and Gunnar Gage, and Bryce and Brett Kania.

Albert will be remembered as a good father and one who really enjoyed his sweets. He was always ready to go for a ride and get a hot fudge sundae. He also enjoyed the company of his cat, Tigger. Albert will be missed.

Friends may call at Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 335 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs, on Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. when the funeral will be held. The Rev. Rod Beardsley, pastor of First Baptist Church in Cambridge Springs, will officiate.

Memorials may be made to Cambridge Area Volunteer Ambulance Service, 202 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs, Pa. 16403.
