Frank N. Kraus

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — Frank N. Kraus, 87, resident of 107 Pleasant St., Cambridge Springs, since 1954, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Edinboro Manor, where he had lived since July 2012.

Born in Los Angeles on Feb. 27, 1925, he was a son of the late George Kraus and Agnes Herder Kraus. He married the former Donna A. Shorts on May 24, 1952, and she died on March 30, 2010.

Frank graduated from Edinboro High School in 1943 and then entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served his country until after the war. Following the war, he worked at Lang Electric in Edinboro, where he was a general foreman. From 1953 to 1956 he was employed by Talon in Meadville and then at several tool and die shops and businesses in the area. During this time, he also sold Raleigh products for about five years. From 1959 to 1975, he worked for Greenleaf in Saegertown as a mill operator and from 1963 to 1990, Frank also was a part-time commercial and residential carpet cleaner.

Frank was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Cambridge Springs, but also was closely affiliated with St. Philip Catholic Church in Crossingville. Frank gained many friends as a good story teller, with many of them made as fellow residents of Edinboro Manor. As a boy, he was a caddy at Culbertson Hills Golf Course but did not play golf until 1972. From then on, he played the game with considerable passion. He enjoyed his many family members and spending time with them.

Preceding Frank in death, in addition to his wife, Donna, were his parents; an infant daughter, Constance; and a sister, Clara Repasky.

Family surviving him include two daughters, Karen Harrington and her husband, John, and Joyce Nowakowski and her husband, Jerry, of Waterford; three sons, Nick Kraus and his wife, Gail, of McKean, Don Kraus and his wife, Jeanann, of Erie, and Carl Kraus and his wife, Millie, of New Castle; 14 grandchildren, Emily Bartlett, Joel Kraus, Angela Kraus, Melody Baron, Brenda Gilliland, Bradley Kraus, Adrianne Morton, Ryan Kraus, Andrea Malinowski, Jaimie Travis, Kyle Nowakowski, Kelsey Nowakowski, Jessica Kraus and Jenna Kraus; eight great-grandchildren, Jason Malinowski, Anna Malinowski, Cameron Gilliland, Owen Kraus, Kayleigh Gilliland, Mackenzie Baron, Madelyn Morton and Trenton Fisher; and a brother, Leonard Kraus of San Diego.

Friends may call at Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. Vigil prayer services will be held Sunday evening at 8:30, with the Rev. David Paulson, pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Cambridge Springs, officiating.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Phillip Catholic Church in Crossingville with the Rev. Thad Kondzielski, pastor, as celebrant.
