SAEGERTOWN — Kenneth L. Bossard, 80, of 18229 State Highway 198, Saegertown, passed away Friday, June 25, 2010, at Meadville Medical Center.

Kenneth was born in Saegertown on March 24, 1930, a son of the late Archie and Lucile Heskett Bossard. In March 1957, Kenneth married Alice P. Hoover; she preceded him in death on March 1, 1996.

He was an active member Saegertown United Methodist Church, where he served on the Administrative Board, the Finance Committee and as a trustee.

In 1988 Kenneth retired from the engineering department of Greenleaf Corp. after 27 years of service. A 1948 graduate of Townville High School, he also attended the former Alliance College in Cambridge Springs. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, U.S. Marine Corps, Kenneth served as a rifle marksmanship instructor at Parris Island, S.C., from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953.

Kenneth enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He was a life member of Saegertown Area Sportsman Club, a member of the National Rifle Association and a Pennsylvania Game Commission certified Hunter-Trapper Safety Education instructor for several years. He was an avid trap shooter where he was involved in three different trap leagues. A motorcycle enthusiast and rider all his adult life, he was a member of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America and Retread International. Kenneth was a charter member of the Aurel Bachiak Detachment of the Marine Corps League, member of Saegertown American Legion Post 205, the Shelby-Mustang Ford Club and a social member of Saegertown Volunteer Fire Department. He had a great interest in antique cars and loved to travel extensively throughout the continental United States.

Kenneth is survived by three brothers, Jerome Bossard and his wife, Lenora, Robert Bossard and his wife Shirley, and Forest (Sam) Bossard, all of Townville; his longtime companion, Rebecca Getchell of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, of 39 years; and his parents.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where a service by the Marine Corps League will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friends and family are also invited to call on Monday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave.

The funeral will be conducted at Saegertown United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, with the Rev. Kenneth Custer, pastor, officiating.

Interment with full military honors will take place in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saegertown United Methodist Church Building Fund, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, Pa. 16433; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
