Elizabeth A. Rees

RIDGWAY — Elizabeth A. Rees, 95, of 224 Emmett St., Ridgway, died Monday evening, Nov. 26, 2012, at Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility following a brief illness.

She was born Nov. 21, 1917, in Ridgway, a daughter of the late Zachary and Angela DiNardo Gasbarre. She married Karl E. (Kelly) Rees on May 8, 1948, in St. Leo Catholic Church; he preceded her in death Dec. 19, 2009.

She had resided in Ridgway for most of her life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Leo’s Samaritans and the Altar Guild. She had been a Cub Scout leader, a Girl Scout leader, a 4-H leader and a past member of the Elk County General Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.

She was a 1936 graduate of Ridgway High School, and a graduate of Thompson Business College. She had been employed by C.O. Salberg and Sons as a bookkeeper for 11 years and with the County of Elk as a deputy prothonotary for 20 years.

She is survived by four children, Charles Rees and his wife, Margaret Malloy, of Meadville, Mary Lou Rickey and her husband, Mark, of Richmond, Va., Dr. Paul Rees and his wife, Marcia, of Ridgway, and Anne Kilpatrick and her husband, William, of Perrysburg, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Joshua Rickey, Zachary Rickey and his wife, Melissa, Daniel Rickey, Benjamin Rickey, Dakota Thomas and her husband, Matthew, Hudson Rees, Emily Durham and her husband, Nicholas, Lindsay Kilpatrick and Kelly Kilpatrick; two great-grandchildren, Luca Rickey and Amelie Rickey; three brothers, Gene Gasbarre of Ridgway, Zachary Gasbarre of Weedville, and John Gasbarre and his wife, Eva, of Johnsonburg; two sisters, Julia Ellard of Pleasanton, Calif., and Martha Smith of St. Louis, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Victor, Dominick and George Gasbarre; and a sister, Louise Gasbarre.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Father Brian E. Vossler, pastor of St. Leo’s.

Burial will follow at St. Leo Cemetery.

Friends will be received at Thompson Funeral Home, 136 Center St., Ridgway, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Wake Service will be held Friday afternoon at 3:45 at the funeral home.
