LOCUST GROVE, Ga. — Rita Harvey Gill, 74, of Locust Grove, Ga., passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.

She was born at Pettis Corners, Meadville, on Jan. 28, 1938, to the late Charles and Virginia Roche Harvey.

She was a 1955 graduate of Cochranton High School and joined the U.S. Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in 1956. She served her country in the Army Air Force Exchange Service. Rita was one of the last of the WAC before it became part of the regular Army.

She was a parishioner of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. She was a member of the American Legion and the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, reading and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Jerry Gill of Locust Grove; children, Connie (Jeff) Carman of McDonough, Alisa (Jay) King of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Tom (Kelly) Gill of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Johnny (Kristin) Carman, Joe (Cassie) Carman, Jimmy Carman, Douglas Caswell, Kacie Caswell, Matthew Gill and Caroline Gill; great-granddaughters, Jaclyn and Josie Carman; siblings, Bud (Clarence) (Sandy) Harvey, Jack Harvey and Nancy (Bud) Hunt, all of Meadville; sisters-in-law, Jean Harvey of Meadville, Cheryl (Steve) Hibberts of Richmond Hill, Ga., and Linda (J.W.) Ousley of Austin, Texas; and dearest friend, Carol Odomot of Stockbridge, Ga. She also was survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Thayer and Ethel Scowden Harvey, and Charles and Nancy Wheeler Roche; and two brothers, Stephen and Michael Harvey of Meadville.

Memorial services were conducted Dec. 1 from the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Monsignor Terry Young as celebrant and Col. John Anzalone (U.S. Air Force retired) as eulogist.

Friends visited the family one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the Henry County Veterans Museum at Heritage Park, 99 Lake Dow Drive, McDonough, Ga. 30252; or the Museum’s Account at any Henry County Suntrust Bank locations in memory of Rita.

Arrangements were under the direction of Haisten Funeral Home, 1745 Zack Hinton Parkway South, McDonough, Ga. Condolences can be sent at haistenfunerals.com.

There will also be a full military service on Jan. 28 at Millidgeville, Ga.
