Daniel V. Miller

FAIRVIEW — Daniel V. Miller, 75, of Fairview, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West following a lengthy illness.

He was born Nov. 8, 1936, in Fairview, a son of the late Keith and Jean Vitter Miller. Dan was a life-long resident of Fairview, where he and his wife owned and operated the Fairview Sunoco Service, later known as Fairview Service Center, for many years.

He was an active member of the community. He was a 60-year member of Fairview Presbyterian Church where he served two full terms as trustee. He was a Fairview borough councilman for 10 years, a member of the Fairview Cemetery Association and a life member of the Fairview Fireman’s Relief Association. Dan was also active in youth organizations and served on the board of Boy Scout Troop 68, and the board of Joy Assembly, International Order of Rainbow for Girls. He was a volunteer worker for Little Gridders and was a member of Football Chain Gang for Fairview High School and received the 1983 Booster of the Year award.

Dan was a charter member of the Northwest Jaycees and received the Young Man of the Year award. He was a member of Lake Erie Lodge 347 and Zem Zem Shrine, where he served as chief aide to six potentates and was named chief aide emeritus and Shriner of the Year in 1998. He was a member of the Zem Zem Cycle Corps, Zem Zem Motor Corps and many other units and clubs. He was a member of the Order of Jesters and a charter member of the Order of Quetzalcoatl. Dan was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by three brothers, Dick, Doug and Don Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Brueckman Miller; two daughters, Kay Lynn Platz and her companion, Robert Streb, of Abzecon, N.J., and Kim Heberle and her husband, Craig, of Conneaut Lake; a son, Daniel M. Miller and his wife, Michelle, of Fairview; a brother, David J. Miller and his wife, June, of Falmouth, Mass.; a sister, Mary Lou Moisio of Conneaut, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Stadler and her husband, Ron, of Girard. Dan is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Justin, Stephanie, Jordan, Tyler, Kristin, Andrea and Ian; along with several nieces and nephews

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, in Girard, on Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. A Masonic Lodge service will be conducted by the Lake Erie Lodge 347, Free and Accepted Masons in Girard on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Burton’s All Faiths Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Cammarata of Fairview Presbyterian Church officiating.
