John H. ‘Jack’ Pinch

MEADVILLE — John H. “Jack” Pinch, 63, of Meadville, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at his residence, with his wife, Pam, by his side.

John was born on Aug. 16, 1949, in Sharon, the son of the late Mary Shuttleworth Bee and Herbert and Dorothy Pinch.

John and his wife, Pam Willis, have been together since 1998. She survives.

John graduated from Sharpsville Area High School and attended Mercyhurst College. While a senior in high school, he and Ted Dalton enlisted in the Marines under the Buddy System. As a young Marine of less than 20 years of age, John was sent to Vietnam in December 1967. John’s exemplary service resulted in him receiving three Purple Hearts in a period of three months. Although he wanted to stay with his unit, the Marine Corps mandated that he be taken out of the war zone when he received his third Purple Heart. This wonderful young Marine always regretted having to leave his men, but for those who knew John so well, we used his superior service as a guiding light. John will continue to be thought of as a Marine who gave it his all. Upon his discharge from the service, he became a Pennsylvania State Police officer, a position he held for over 20 years.

Embracing the Scottish Heritage from his mother, John pursued the playing of bagpipes and was a member of the Grove City Highland Pipe Band, the Allegheny and District Pipe Band and Veteran’s Memorial Pipe Band. He also was a piper for the Pennsylvania State Police.

John was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and a member of the Scottish Rite Society.

In addition to his wife, Pamela Willis, John is survived by his siblings, Barbara Meyer and her husband, Robert, of Transfer, Marilou Zampedro and her husband, Publio, of Warren, Ohio, Robert “Bo” Pinch and his wife, Peggy, of Sharon, and a half-brother, Ken Bee of Florida. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no calling hours and the memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials can be made in John’s Memory to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan. 66675.
