CONNEAUT LAKE —
Helen Mabel Lyman, 98, had a joyous reunion with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
She was born to Elmer Dan Stairs and Grace Pleiades Wood Stairs on Feb. 22, 1914, in Sayre.
Helen graduated from Parker High School, Clarence, N.Y.
She received her RN degree from Deaconess Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y., School of Nursing in 1936. She and the Rev. Harold L. Lyman were married Feb. 6, 1937. She began her nursing career in Ohio while her husband was a college and seminary student. She also worked at Stem Memorial in Union City for many years as a head nurse. Helen retired from nursing in 1976.
Helen taught Sunday school classes in the various churches they served together, which she continued to do so after his death June 13, 1980.
She loved music, knitting, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Laurene Lyman of Grand Rapids, Mich., and a son, Lawrence (Ellen) Lyman of Meadville; four grandchildren, Evangeline (David) Smith, Stephen (Lisa) Lyman, LeeAnn (Frank) White and Laurie Beth Lyman; nine great-grandchildren, John Kyle, David Benjamin, Je’Angelle, Ariana and Kadance Smith, Tahlor and S. Andrew Lyman and Michala and Chelsea White; a sister, Jeanne (Emory) Martin of Palmyra; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Celebration service will be announced at a later date.
