CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS —
Joseph Catalano Jr., 75, of Cambridge Springs, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Meadville, Dec. 19, 1937, the son of Lew Walton and the late Ruth Boyle Walton.
After high school, Joseph attended Grove City College, earning a degree in business.
In 1960 he joined the U.S. Army and served in the U.S. during the Vietnam era.
For many years, Joe worked for the Goodyear Tire Co. in the Pittsburgh area. In 1970, he moved to Edinboro to manage the newly constructed Darrow Place Apartments by Edinboro University.
He started his own commercial cleaning service and named it Thor-O-Clean. In 1985, Joseph opened the Thor-O-Tire shop on Route 6N in Edinboro. After 17 years Joe sold his part of the business and retired in 2002.
He loved to hunt, fish, golf and play cards. Joe also enjoyed sitting on his porch visiting with his family and friends for hours at a time.
Survivors include his loving wife of 14 years, Julia Luty Catalano; two sons, Douglas Catalano and his wife, Kimberly, of Virginia, and Joel Catalano of Edinboro; a daughter, Erin Wheeler of Ohio; also, his dogs, Delilah and Pearl, and a cat, Woody.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Catalano Sr.
Calling hours are Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie St., Edinboro, where there will be a parish prayer service at 3:45 p.m. Monday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philip Catholic Church, 25797 Route 98, Crossingville, Tuesday at 11 a.m., with Father Thad Kondzielski as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Crossingville.
Memorials may be made to the Jake Boyle Memorial Scholarship Fund payable to Penn State Behrend, Development Office, 5103 Station Road, Erie, Pa. 16563.
