DELAWARE, Ohio —
Jean Marie Moffett Wickum of Delaware, Ohio, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at the Sarah Moore Home.
She was born May 24, 1919, in Meadville.
Jean served in the U.S. Women’s Army Corps during World War II, where she met and married Wilbur C. (Wick) Wickum on Sept. 15, 1945. Wick preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1990.
Jean served 21 years as director of the Mental Health Association. She volunteered at the Andrews House and served as a poll worker. She served on the boards of several community agencies and was the first president of the board of the Council on Alcohol, which is now the Delaware Area Recovery Resources. She also served as a staff member of the Alcohol Education Program, the court-related school for DUI offenders. Jean was a former member of the City Shade Tree Commission. She was a charter member of DALA.
As a member of First Baptist church, she served as a choir member, convener of the Young at Heart Group, member of the ABWomen’s Ministries Sunday school teacher, youth group advisor and various other boards and committees.
She is survived by siblings, David Mead, John Mead and Karen Ellison; many nieces and nephews; and her godson and his wife, Larry and Pam Faulk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Mead Sr. and Marie Mead; husband, Wilbur C. Wickum; brothers and sisters, Wallace Mead, Henry Mead, Lloyd Mead Jr., Marcia Chapman and Mary Ann Brown; and special friend, Susan Mussard.
Visitation was at Robinson Funeral Home, Delaware.
A graveside service was held at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Chesser officiating. Military honors were conducted by the Delaware County Veterans Association.
A memorial service was held at First Baptist Church, with refreshments served immediately following the service. Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 101 N. Franklin St., Delaware, Ohio 43015.
