Fred D. Yarnell

UTICA — Fred D. Yarnell, 81, of Utica, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville.

Born April 30, 1931, in Canal Township, Venango County, he was a son of Ellis and Arlene Rough Yarnell. He married Mary (Libby) Bell on Oct. 10, 1952, and she preceded him in death on June 19, 1997. On July 3, 1998, he married Jo Ann Dailey Hunt and she survives.

He served stateside in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Returning from the war, he worked at several companies, some of which included, Joy Manufacturing, Meadville Malleable, many local lumber companies, the last of which was Baker’s Sawmill, and he also worked at Coinco.

He and his wife attended Lupher Chapel Church. He was also a lifetime member of Utica Volunteer Fire Department, the Utica Senior Citizens, and the Lucky 13 CBer’s Club and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Robert Yarnell and his wife, Marie, of Meadville, and Randy Yarnell and his wife, Dawn, of Franklin; three stepchildren, John Hunt and his wife, Mariann, of Dillsburg, Janet Nahay and her husband, Robert, of Meadville, and Jean Friedrich and her husband, John, of Cochranton; three sisters, Marjorie Shorts and her husband, DeWayne, of Cooperstown, Marie Baer of Saegertown, and Mary Trimble and her husband, Charles, of Rock Hill, S.C.; two brothers, Burton Yarnell and his wife, June, of Franklin, and Darwin (Buck) Yarnell and his wife, Ruth, of Cochranton; four grandchildren, Robert Yarnell Jr. of Utica, Nick Yarnell of Domenica, Ryan Yarnell of Franklin and Aron Yarnell of Franklin; seven stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson Austin Yarnell; a stepgreat-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Paul Yarnell.

Friends will be received at Dickson Family Funeral Home Inc., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Alice Parker of Lupher Chapel Church officiating.

Interment will be in Cochranton Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Cochranton American Legion.
