Aloysius A. Furka

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Aloysius A. Furka, 86, of Steubenville, Ohio, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at home.

He was born June 15, 1926, in Lyndora. He is a son of the late Demiter and Katherine Jancosko Furka. Al is also preceded in death by his wife, Anne C. Vasiloff Furka; four brothers, Joseph, Steven, William and Ambrose, and two sisters, Anne Furka and Helen Furka; a grandson, Andrew (AJ) Pollus; and a granddaughter, Mikayla Marie Furka.

Al retired as the sales manager after 32 years of service from Iron City Distributing Co. He also worked as the manager of the former Sparkle Market, which became Loblaws, and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS French.

Surviving are a son, Robert (Linda) Furka of Wheeling, Ohio; three daughters, Veronica (Andrew) Pollus of Conneaut Lake, Deborah Furka (husband, John Race) of Seminole, Fla., and Mary Faith (Bill) Recinella of Mason, Ohio; a brother, Anthony (Barbara) Furka of Kansas City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Audra and Christopher Furka, Beth Johnson, Alison (Lloyd) Race Hildebrand, Julie (Jamie) Angelo, Cory Race, Benjamin Grueschow, Timothy Race and Kelley Recinella (Willie Whitty), Kyle and Kimberly Recinella; and three great-grandchildren, Julia Anne Johnson, Kaden Lloyd Hildebrand and Addisyn Leigh Whitty.

Al was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church; the American Legion Argonne Post 33; the Knights of Columbus Council 472, where he was a past grand knight and current financial secretary; Slovak Catholic Sokol, Lyndora, Wreath No. 54, and he was a volunteer at Lancia Villa Royale.

Calling hours are today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. There is a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. today.

A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Father Thomas Nau, celebrant.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
