BANDERA, Texas — Mitchell Jay Reid died suddenly at his home in Bandera, Texas, on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, from complications of influenza.

He was born in Meadville, a son of Linda K. Reid and the late James R. Reid. He graduated from Cochranton High School in 1976 where he had participated in the band, chorus and other music groups. He was an active member of Boy Scouts of America. He attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

Mitch moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1979 and later relocated to the San Antonio area where he served as a scout master for many years, often taking part in the Scoutmaster’s Camp Chef Competition, frequently finishing in first place. He was self-employed as owner/operator of a handyman and cleaning/remodeling service. He maintained a large email communication network through which he stayed in touch with many friends and family members. His Facebook page became a favorite hobby as well.

He is survived by his son, James Mitchell Reid of Bandera, Texas; his mother, Linda Reid of Solomons, Md.; his sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Patrick Ragen of St. Leonard, Md.; his brother and sister-in-law, Brent and Anita Reid of Petersburg, Va.; and his grandmother, June Turner of Meadville; as well as three nieces and several aunts and uncles.

He was predeceased by his father, James Reid (in 1987) and his brother, Derek Reid (in 1991).

Arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels, Bandera.
